Dear Ravers,

We know there are a lot of activities during NIGA, but here’s one you can’t miss. This event has developed into “the event to attend” during NIGA to network with the right folks in a beautiful setting and laugh so hard that your stomach hurts the next day, all while supporting a very important cause.
It’s the 4th annual Native Strong Comedy Slam on Thursday night, April 19 at 9:00 pm, at the stunning Smith Center in Las Vegas.

Join us for three extremely funny Native American comics, Ernie Tsosie, headliner Howie Miller and our long-time event host Larry Omaha. This evening of laughs benefits the Notah Begay III Foundation and its critically important work addressing the health and fitness of Native American youth. We’re thrilled that this event is an official event during the Indian Gaming Tradeshow and Exposition and is once again endorsed by Chairman Ernie Stevens, Jr. and the National Indian Gaming Association.

We can’t be more delighted to be hosting this event at the nationally-renowned Smith Center. Attendees and sponsors can choose from a variety of seating options with tables on the floor and on the balcony, perfect for your groups of four, six or eight, as well as individual tickets. Please view the layout and packages here.

Your evening begins at 6:30 pm for cocktails on the outdoor courtyard. Enjoy conversations with the comics and over 200 of Tribal gaming’s industry leaders and supporters. The show begins at 9:00 pm inside the Myron’s Cabaret Jazz room.

The best part of the night? Well, besides the gorgeous venue, the gut-busting laughter, the premiere networking with key leaders in our industry … it’s a wonderful evening for an excellent cause: keeping Native American youth healthy through the efforts of the Notah Begay III Foundation.

We have sold out every year … so make sure to reserve your seat today by going to our Comedy Slam website.

I Think We’re Onto Something Here … NB3FIT Week Expands in 2017

In November of 2016, a movement took place. More than 10,000 young people from 110 tribes and Native American communities participated in a group exercise for one hour on one day. This “appeal” was created by NB3F, an organization founded by golf broadcaster and the first Native American four-time winner of the PGA Tour, Notah Begay III. NB3F’s focus is to reverse the epidemic of type 2 diabetes facing children in Indian country and that 50% of Native youth are facing a life of obesity and unfulfilled years fighting health problems. Creating NB3FIT Week during Native American Heritage Month is one of many steps in changing these statistics.

This year, NB3F expanded option to have the event any day during the week of November 5 – 11,  allowing participating organizations scheduling flexibility. According to the organizers, they had several locations that hosted events each day of the week!

According to Justin Kii Huenemann, President and CEO of the Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3 Foundation) early data shows that:

  • 91 Native American communities participated in NB3FIT Week
  • 20 states across the country were represented
  • Over 100 events were scheduled

The stats above don’t include the Kid’s Quest locations that participated. According to Ann Zenor, Senior Creative and New Business Development Strategist, “NB3 Fit Week was celebrated at all Kids Quest locations from Connecticut to California! To support the NB3 initiatives, we asked all center Play Pros to come up with fun games that would keep the children moving! During that week, we kept the kids busy with physical challenges. Activities ranged from pick-up basketball games and obstacle courses in the gym to timed races through our Quest play pieces and sessions of some serious climbing on our rock walls! To incentivize our Native families, children received their play time at Kids Quest for 50% off the hourly rate at all Tribal properties.”

Sharing the Stories that Inspire Us – Submissions Due November 30

The stories that remind us WHY we do what we do

For a number of reasons, Tribal gaming organizations are seldom recognized for their history of uncommon generosity and support that they provide to non-Native and Native organizations and communities.

This November, we ask you to participate in the third annual Tribal Spirit of Giving Celebration by sharing a story about how your tribal organization has come together to raise awareness, raise funds, or offer assistance to people and to causes in the past year. (See below how to share)

Need some inspiration? Here are a few videos to remind us all of the role of Indian gaming:

Resurrecting Inactive Guests Through Exclusivity and Personalization

By Jerry Epstein, Raving Partner and CEO, Engaged Nation

Customer reactivation is one of the bigger challenges casino marketing professionals face, as traditional marketing efforts continue to prove the law of diminishing return. This is especially true for smaller, tribal properties that can be in somewhat remote locations. But you don’t have to be Dr. Frankenstein to reanimate these “dead” customers … you just need to show them a little bit of love and make them feel special in a way they aren’t used to receiving on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to accomplish this using the passive and typical "one touch" method of engagement (sending out a single email or direct mail piece that essentially re-introduces yourself each time). You will simply continue to be ignored.

You need to create a scenario whereby your dormant customer, regardless of level of segmentation, is given an opportunity to participate in a promotion that truly establishes an air of exclusivity with a high perceived value, the rewards are “earned” or “won” but – and here’s the important part – also drive profitable property visits and incremental revenue.

Easier said than done, right? Nope. It just takes a bit of ingenuity and a willingness to get out of your comfort zone.

For instance, we recently helped one of our clients implement a reengagement strategy that was customized per person, cost them nothing to participate, described as "by invitation” and only made available to players for 12 weeks to give it a greater appearance of exclusivity and sense of urgency.

How to Engage More Players and Drive More Trips

By Daniel Wood, Strategic Raving Partner, Phone Based Marketing Solutions and VP of Business Development at Engagex

As casino executives, we often devote most of our direct marketing and player development resources to top end players. We make personalized phone calls to our big spenders while allowing simple mailers to take care of players who typically spend less. However, many teams are missing out on a huge volume of opportunities to grow the middle segment of players.

Senior Raving partner Nicole Barker recently presented some valid questions around the communication and promotion within our direct marketing programs when she said,

“Do you ask yourself whether the player feels closer to the casino and its brand after digesting the piece? Monthly, we have a chance to connect with customers. Rarely does the monthly mailer do this as an extension of our brand or as an expression of the property’s unique personality.”

Ask yourself, does your monthly mailer really make your guests feel connected to your casino? Is it personal enough? Does it make your guest feel special, important, and like there are unique opportunities awaiting them? In a few cases, mailers may get the job done, but for most players, it won’t. So, what can be done to connect with more players and drive more trips and spending?

When executed properly, adding a personal phone call from your staff will create an extremely intimate and unique way of connecting with your players. Talking to a real person who can discuss current promotions and have a real conversation about the guest’s playing habits can make each of your players feel like a VIP! Your phone staff becomes an extension of your properties unique brand and personality! If you are consistent, your guests will look forward to these personal calls, thus increasing their loyalty to your property. This increase in loyalty could result in several additional trips per month.

Press Release – Northern Nevada’s Involvement in NB3FIT Week 2017

PRESS RELEASE – November 2017

Battling an Epidemic: Northern Nevada’s Involvement in NB3Fit Week, a National Health Initiative

Reno, NV – Native American Indian communities are facing an epidemic.  One out of two Native children born since 2000 will develop type 2 diabetes and 81% of Native adults are overweight or obese and 45% of 2-5 year olds are overweight. NB3Fit Week, November 5-11, 2017, is a national movement which moves this issue to the forefront, bringing together thousands of Native American youth across the country in physical activity as well as promoting drinking clean water and eating healthy foods.

A “movement” created

In November of 2016, the inaugural event, more than 10,000 young people from 110 tribes and Native American communities participated in a group exercise for one hour on one day. The “movement” was created by NB3F, an organization founded by golf broadcaster and the first Native American four-time winner of the PGA Tour, Notah Begay III.  Local Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe had over 50 kids show up for their 90-minute cross-training event. Tribal organizations across the county held walks and hikes to Native field games and obstacle courses. This year, NB3F changed the event from a day to a week, allowing participating organizations scheduling flexibility. Several tribes across the country have already registered their event for 2017, including, for the first time, the University of Nevada Reno, Native American Alumni Chapter.

Goodbye Dennis (but not really)

Dear Ravers,

As most of our readers know, as of October 1, my husband Brady Scott, an enrolled Coquille Tribal member, and I purchased Raving from Dennis Conrad. I was an executive of one of Raving’s first tribal casino clients 20 years ago and hired the firm frequently in the ensuing years; I then went to work for the team as a senior consultant. It’s with great honor and excitement that we take on this incredible company.

Since I came onboard as CEO at the beginning of January, we have added programs and resources, expanding what most of the industry knows as Raving. It’s not easy for someone to give up their “baby” – yet Dennis has been supportive of all of the changes and the new vision for Raving moving forward. You’ll be able to “experience” Raving 2.0 with the reveal of our new website in 2018, as well as our upcoming Raving NEXT Conference and Raving’s 20th National Indian Gaming Analytics & Marketing Conference. (You can help us roast Dennis at that event in January as well!)
